On Saturday, 8th October 2022, two members of Sacred Heart Church, Sandra and Julie, and one member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Sr Gina were commissioned to be Extraordinary ministers by Bishop Paul Hendrick and Monsignor Matthew Dickens at the Metropolitan Cathedral Church of St George. The members spent a day of recollection and received instructions for their new ministry concluding with their commissioning during mass.

Mrs Drinan a long serving catechist at Sacred Heart Church, Battersea states "The sun was shining on such a wonderful day, deepening our faith and listing to some wonderful talks led by Bishop Paul Hendricks and Monsignor Matthew Dickens.

A great day had by all. It was an honourable moment to attend Adoration and being able to fulfil the sacrament of reconciliation held by the Bishop.

It is an honour and privilege to be able to continue serving our Lord and the community."

The Rite of commissioning of the Extraordinary ministers’ positions that, “In this ministry, you must be examples of Christian living in faith and conduct; you must strive to grow in holiness through this sacrament of unity and love. Remember that, though many, we are one body because we share the one bread and one cup. As ministers of holy communion be, therefore, especially observant of the Lord’s command to love your neighbour. For when he gave his body as food to his disciples, he said to them, “This is my commandment, that you should love one another as I have loved you.”
